# Changelog

Life Fiber: rollback netplay and enhancements for KILL la KILL -IF. Newest first. Both players always need the same version: the panel's title shows it (`Life Fiber <version>+<build>`).

## 1.0.2

### Updates
- Release notes in the game: Settings > About > What's new lists every version's notes (confirm one to read it).
"What's new" after an update and "Release notes" for an offered update open them there instead of the browser,
which works on the Steam Deck too. An offered update's notes come with it from the website.
- The "Updated to Life Fiber X" note (panel and title screen) goes away once the panel has been closed after it.
- When the website doesn't have a version's download yet (the host answers with a web page), the updater says so
("The website doesn't have this version's download yet") instead of "The download is incomplete".

## 1.0.1

### Updates
- A test release for the updater: no changes from 1.0.0. If your game offered it on the title screen and updated
itself to 1.0.1, the updater works.

## 1.0.0

### Rollback netplay
- Rollback netcode (GekkoNet) carried over Steam networking: no port forwarding. Each player sets their own input
  delay.
- Open the Life Fiber panel with F1 or Select + Start: Quick Match (the public room) or Direct Match (a match code).
- In matches, one row on the top edge of the screen shows both players' names, the session record (wins / played)
and their connection (wired / Wi-Fi), with the ping, its jitter, the opponent's frame rate and the rollback
frames. F2 hides or shows it.
- The post-match menu comes up while the winner's quote plays: Rematch, Character Select, Save Battle (to the
Gallery's replay list) or Leave. Once both pick Rematch, the next match starts about a second later.
- Every netplay match is recorded in `lifefiber-logs` and can be replayed; a desync is detected and reported.

### Quick Match
- A public room of up to 250 players; when one is full, the next opens. Everyone in a room runs the same Life
Fiber build and the same gameplay content.
- The room lists every player with their character's portrait, wins / losses and streak, ping and connection,
status (OK, Playing, Challenging, Away, Watching) and opponent.
- Confirm on a free player to challenge them: the input delay starts by their ping colour (green 1 frame, yellow 2,
red 3) and can be changed before Ready. A challenge you receive opens the panel: Ready to accept, or Decline.
Confirm on a player in a match to watch it.
- Matches use your saved characters, 2 rounds, 180 s and a random stage; the challenged player hosts as 1P. Save
your character once and change it from the room any time.

### Direct Match and the versus screen
- Host a match and give the 6-letter code to your opponent, who joins with it.
- Both players pick on one shared character grid, seeing each other's cursor, weapon and colour choices live.
Then the rules: stage (with each stage's shape), rounds, time (including Endless), each player's handicap
(1 takes double damage, 7 half) and input delay. The match starts when both are Ready.

### Spectating
- Enter a match code and press Spectate, or confirm on a playing player in Quick Match. You see the whole session
from its first match, whenever you join, then every match after it.
- The spectator panel has Previous match, Next match and Current match. The host sees how many are watching;
Settings > Online can disallow spectators.

### Content mods
- Put each content mod (for example Restitched) in its own folder under `Mods`; a mod only needs the files it
changes, and the game's own files stay untouched. Pick it in Settings > Mods and restart.
- Netplay compares both players' gameplay files before a match and lists what differs. Cosmetic-only differences
(models, textures, menus, text, music) are allowed.
- Each mod keeps its own saved battles (`Mods-Replays\<mod>`), so every replay plays back correctly. Mods' extra
colours (such as Mako's and DTR's fourth colour in Restitched) work online.
- While a mod is loaded, the game's own Player Match and Ranked Match are locked.

### Settings
- The game's Options open one settings menu with tabs: Game, Sound, Controls, Graphics, Online, Mods and About.
It works like the game's menus (LB / RB or Q / N change tabs) and with the mouse.
- Controls: both players side by side, each with their own device (any controller or the keyboard), button
config (triggers included), vibration and Swap sides. Bindings are saved to the game's own files.
- Text language: any of the game's nine languages, independent of Steam's. Audio output device: Windows' default
or a chosen device, which the game keeps (and falls back from while it's unplugged).
- Menus and panels stay readable on small screens (720p, Steam Deck); `lifefiber.ini [ui] scale` sizes them.

### Graphics
- A new install picks its graphics for the PC: borderless at the screen's resolution and a Low, Medium or High
preset (the Steam Deck and integrated graphics get lighter settings). Settings > Graphics > Detect best settings
  repeats it.
- Render scale: the 3D at 50–200 % of the resolution. Above 100 % supersamples for smoother edges; below it runs
faster on weak GPUs. Menus and the HUD stay sharp, and players may use different scales in netplay.
- Anti-aliasing: Off, FXAA (the game's own), FXAA Quality or SMAA. All add no input delay.
- Image scaling when the window size differs from the resolution (bicubic up, smooth down), a low-latency present
mode on Windows 10 / 11, exact 60 Hz frame pacing, and a frame rate counter (F3). Large performance fixes,
  especially on AMD graphics.

### Unlocks
- Versus, Practice and the Gallery are unlocked. Every colour is available, including the console pre-order
  Special Colors.
- The story-only forms (Ryuko Senketsu-Kisaragi, Satsuki Junketsu-Shinzui, Ragyo Shinra-Koketsu, Nui
Fiber-Arms) in offline modes and Direct Match, and the story-only stages Broken Thread Palace and Final Stage.

### Fixes
- Bloody Valor: a super right as the "Overpowered" scene ends no longer soft-locks the game (the Restitched 1.8
fix; not in the game's own online modes).
- Keyboard players keep their own key bindings at round starts and after Bloody Valor scenes, and the Bloody Valor
  choice shows their own keys.
- Stage select: Round / Wide corrected for Naturals Election Stadium and Thread Palace.
- The game's launcher and the boot logos are skipped, which also fixes the game getting stuck on the Steam Deck.

### Updates and about
- Life Fiber updates itself: at start it checks lifefiber.link for a new version, and the title screen and the
panel offer it. "Update and restart" downloads it, checks it and restarts the game with it; never during a
session. `lifefiber.ini [update] check=0` turns the check off.
- Settings > About shows whether this is the latest version, links to the website, and lists the licenses of the
software Life Fiber includes (also in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt).

### Steam Deck and Linux
- Proton needs the launch option `WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%` to load Life Fiber.
